Inauguration of the Newly renovated "Kangaroo Mother Care Ward"

of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital .

Give A Life (GAL) Charity Foundation, in partnership with Springboard Foundation, has finished another milestone renovation project at the Kangaroo Mother Care Ward of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, through the kind donations of DSM Nutritional Products. The newly renovated ward was formally opened on October 19, 2007. Among the guests of honors during the inauguration program were Corazon Garalde, Regional Manager of the South East Asia DSM Nutritional Products; Arnel Rigor, Manager of DSM Nutritional Products; Annette Helbig, President of Springboard Foundation. Ms. Melanie T. Ilisan, Officer-In-Charge of GAL represented the foundation during the program. The Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) program started in Bogota, Colombia. It was then adopted by Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in August 1999. From then on, all newborn babies less than 200grams are admitted to KMC ward. In 2005, Ms. Annette Helbig of Springboard, along with staff from GAL visited the institution during the renovation of the NICU wards of Fabella. They noticed that the said ward needed refurbishment and renovation in terms of its facilities and equipment. Through their initiatives and donation from DSM Nutritional Products the renovation was pursued. Due to the renovation and construction made to KMC ward, the ventilation improves tremendously and the newly born babies and their mothers are now protected because screens are placed on the windows. Walls have been repainted, thus, helps decrease the incident of infections. Enclosures are placed along the ward and screened doors are built to limit the entry of mosquitoes and unauthorized persons, hence, making the area safe and protected. Such renovation is one of the nicest gifts received by babies and mothers at the KMC ward from Give A Life, Springboard and DSM Nutritional Products. Here are some of the highlights of the said event.
		Last October 19, 2007, through the efforts of Give A Life Charity Foundation & Spring Board Foundation, the newly renovated, Kangaroo Mother Care ward of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital was formally inaugurated.
